Born and raised in the Netherlands, I have lived and worked in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom and also Australia. For ten years now I have been resident in the UK and I am married to a native English speaker. I maintain daily contact with the Netherlands via various media and visit my country of birth at least five times a year.
Employment history:
NMA Translations Ltd (formed 2004):
Currently I am providing quality translation services in the following language pairs: English to Dutch, German to Dutch, Dutch to English, and German to English. Whilst also covering most general subjects, my specialisation is in technical translation (Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering), software and website translation.
Contitech Power Transmission Systems Ltd (1997-2004), Cytec Aerospace Ltd (1995-1997), Dynoplast Ltd (1994-1995), Van Leer Packaging Worldwide (1987-1994):
I worked for over 15 years as a Project Engineer in the plastics and rubber processing industry and also as a Research Technologist in the Aerospace industry. I am very experienced in technical/engineering subjects, and have good knowledge of machine programming/control systems. The translation of technical documentation (e.g. reports, manuals, machine software) and creation of standard operating procedures have always played a key part in my engineering role over the years, and I thoroughly enjoy the combination of technology and language.
Key skills:
I converse fluently in Dutch, English and German, and have extensive knowledge of IT and technical/engineering terminology in all three languages. I possess excellent writing skills in Dutch and English, the languages I translate to. My technical experience forms a solid foundation for any technical translation task I undertake. I am computer and internet literate, and use current IT equipment and software.
IT hardware:
Up-to-date PC system: currently with AMD XP 2500+ processor, 1GB RAM, two 80GB hard drives (one dedicated to data backup), disk drive, DVD and CD-RW drive, Epson Photo printer, scanner and reliable cable broadband internet connection. In addition to this a Philips DECT fax machine is used.
IT software:
At present I use Windows XP and Office 2000 Pro, Norton Internet Security 2004, various CAT-packages (e.g. WordFast 4.22, SDLX Lite, CatsCradle 2.8, System Quirk, ScanSoft Dragon NaturallySpeaking XP NL 5.5 and PDF Converter Professional 2).
Education and Qualifications:
Institute of Technology Enschede, The Netherlands: BEng-degree in Chemical/Process Technology, with specialisation in plastics and rubber technology.
City College, Manchester, UK: I successfully completed a one-year course in sound engineering and music production.
City University, London, UK: I successfully, and with much enjoyment, completed the post-graduate Diploma in Translation course (EN-NL).
Professional Memberships:
 American Translators Association: I became ATA-certified (EN-NL) and thereby a Corresponding Member in 2003.
 Institute of Translation & Interpreting: I have been an associate of ITI since 2003.
